DC3 Australian Air Holidays, in association with Air Nostalgia, offer a selection of DC3-based holidays in Australia, flying in a remarkable aircraft VH-TMQ, one of around 15 DC3 aircraft (often called Gooney Birds) still flying in Australia.
With her first flight about 65 years ago, she was one of over 10,000 planes produced by Douglas, mostly for military purposes. Following WW2 the DC3, or Gooney Bird as she is affectionately called, was the aircraft used by many fledgling airlines to commence business.
The Air Nostalgia DC3, with 28 seats, has been lovingly restored and improved and now features TV screens and a nose camera so all passengers can share the pilot’s view. Flying at between 5,000 and 8,000 feet at 150 knots, and much lower to view special sights, flights are an exploration, not a high speed dash between two cities.
Fares include DC3 flights, transfers, coach, ship or rail travel, accommodation, normally 4 star, all meals as per itinerary (cooked breakfast, light lunch, three-course dinner), most morning/afternoon teas, admittances, gratuities and service charges.
Where your holiday departs from Essendon Airport, Melbourne metropolitan home/hotel pick up is included and, where your holiday ends at Essendon Airport, Melbourne metropolitan home/hotel return is included.
All Melbourne departures are from Essendon airport.
Interstate and overseas passengers are welcome to join either in Melbourne or other ports
Fares quoted include DC3 and any commercial airfares to and from Melbourne.
For details on airfares and costing from other states, please phone 03 98751411.
On board refreshments are available during DC3 flights. As well as a welcome champagne, tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer, wine and water are provided on a complimentary basis, together with snacks as appropriate to the length of the flight.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended due to high cancellation fees. We suggest this be purchased, from DC3 Australian Air Holidays or your travel agent when paying your deposit.
